The First Annual American Yarchei Kallah on Medicine and Halacha
Thursday - Sunday, February 20 - 23, 2003
Organized by the Jerusalem Center for Research: Medicine and Halacha
Hosted by the Young Israel of Lawrence

Pikuach nefesh on Shabbat, surrogate motherhood, assisted reproduction techniques, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis: a partial list of the variety of contemporary issues of Jewish bioethics that were considered at the five International Yarchei Kallahs in Halacha and Medicine that took place in Jerusalem. Physicians were paired with avreichim for chevruta learning and shiurim were delivered by Gedolai Hador in Israel.

Bowing to repeated requests from American physicians who were not able to participate in Jerusalem, JCR staff is planning the First Annual American Yarchei Kallah in Halacha and Medicine. It is scheduled to take place February 20 -23, 2003 in the Five Towns area of New York.

Join us for a long weekend filled with the Yeshiva atmosphere of learning with a chevruta and outstanding shiurim delivered by American Gedolai hador. Delve in depth into traditional sourcetexts concerning Jewish bio-ethics.

Participants in the Jerusalem Yarchei Kallah have unanimously agreed in the positive reactions:
Dr. Harvey Hirsh, pediatrician, described the experience as "the best of my life."
Dr. Joshua Kunin, surgeon, called it "an incredible learning opportunity."
Dr. Leon Zacarowicz, pediatric neurologist, a cofounder of the Jerusalem program, said "...this is the first and only Yarchie Kallah in the world which pairs physicians with Rabbinic scholars."
